How to Gain Weight

With all of the products promoting weight loss plans, who would think that gaining weight could ever be difficult? For those who have been through surgery, illness, or major stress, weight gain can be quite a challenge. Growing teens who get tall and lanky often wish they could pack on a few more pounds. Naturally thin adults hope for a little more “meat on the bones”. And the elderly, whose reduced appetites can lead to weight loss and diminished strength, can benefit from a weight gain diet.

The American Dietetic Association has stated that the key to gaining weight is taking in more calories per day than your body burns. If you’re looking to put on some extra pounds, you’ll need to eat calorie-rich foods, and you’ll need to eat often. That means eating more than just three meals per day and adding extra calories throughout the day.

Nutritionists have determined that the body normally requires 2000-2500 calories per day to maintain normal functions and 1000 extra daily calories to gain 2 pounds per week. We burn more calories when our activity level is higher and fewer calories when we sleep.

If you are meeting your body's needs for over 2000 calories per day with meals, supplemental nutrition will contribute to your weight gain diet by supplying you with those extra calories that you need. Smart snack eating supplements your nutrition plan even more. Canned and dried fruits make an ideal snack, as do crackers or chips with a high calorie dip. Be sure to drink higher calorie beverages and eat nut and nougat candy bars.

In addition to calorie rich meals and snacks, nutritionists agree an effective weight gain supplement can contribute to a more rapid weight gain by providing those extra calories quickly. The tastier the supplement, the better your chance of enjoying the shake and continuing with the program of gaining weight. Remember, gaining weight is a program and not an event. There isn’t a weight gain product that can give you extra pounds with only a single shake and there is no special pill that can provide results instantly. You need extra calories to gain weight and pills don't provide calories. The best weight gain supplement only works if you enjoy the flavor, have an ample serving size with needed calories, and have a shake regularly.

SupliMed Substi-meal was developed by a medical doctor to provide you with those 1000 and more extra daily calories the nutritionists have determined are needed to gain weight. In addition, each very flavorful scoop of SupliMed Substi-meal provides an abundance of healthy natural nutrients. When mixed with 8 oz of whole milk to make a flavorful weight gain shake, one scoop of SupliMed Substi-meal provides over 650 calories - so two scoops offers over 1300 calories. Three scoops provide nearly 2000 calories, 4 scoops give you 2000 calories when blended with water and over 2600 calories when mixed with 32 oz of whole milk.

You can see how just two or three tasty 8oz shakes a day can make a flavorful and beneficial addition to your weight gain diet. You’ll get the extra calories you need to gain those 2-3 pounds in a week of regular use and you’ll also get to enjoy an appetizing treat 2-3 times a day.

Because SupliMed Substi-meal can provide all the required calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals, it can also be used as a meal replacement and as a primary source of nutrition.

Using the dietitian's advice to combine calories, a SupliMed shake blended with fruits and ice cream and is a mouth-watering solution to the problem of how to gain weight. SupliMed is a dry powder, so it’s easy to take SupliMed with you when you work or travel. When you’re ready for your SupliMed shake, simply mix milk or water with the powder in any closed container and shake until the SupliMed dissolves. The powder dissolves quickly so your calorie-rich shake will be ready to drink in moments.

To tip the scales to those higher digits you’ll need to do more than just pick the right weight gain supplement. Selecting foods that are higher in calories can be a key factor in gaining weight. Some foods to help pack on the pounds are: bagels, biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, waffles, maple syrup, canned fruits, dried fruits, avocado, olives, potatoes, corn, beef, pork, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, whole milk, cheese, ice cream, flavored syrups, pudding, custard, milk shakes, malts, pie, cake, frosting, whipped cream, sour cream, salad dressing, gravy, butter, jams, honey, candy, cream cheese, half and half, mayonnaise, buttermilk, cheesecake.

Whenever possible, choose the meal or snack that provides the most calories and combine foods with high calories. For example, make biscuits and pancakes with buttermilk, add butter and gravy to potatoes, put cheese on your burgers and honey on your toast. Make hot cereals with whole milk - not water - and add cheese to your omelet.

Ten things to remember as you gain weight:

  • Your body always burns calories, day and night. More calories are burned with activity and fewer with sleep. Have a SupliMed shake or high calorie snack at night to store those calories during sleep.
  • Only a certain amount of food can be eaten before we feel full. Always determine if the foods are high in calories. Don't fill up on lower calorie foods.
  • Water contains zero calories.
  • Eating high calorie foods is a methodical and systematic process. Avoid skipping meals. If you find yourself passing over meals, have more high-calorie snacks and a nutritious high calorie supplement shake. SupliMed works very well as a meal replacement.
  • Always rate the calories in foods and decide to eat the higher calorie foods when given a choice.
  • Read the nutritional labels in the grocery store and select the types and brands that provide more calories per serving. These are surprise calories. Not all products are equal in calories. So choose the ice cream with the most calories and the canned fruits that lists a higher calorie count.
  • When preparing food, use high calorie additives in combination. For example - cook hot cereal with whole milk, make pancakes with buttermilk, fry foods rather than baking them, and add ice cream to your SupliMed shake.
  • Add calories to your diet in even small increments such as sugar in your coffee, honey in your tea, butter on your toast, dressing on your salad. Don’t avoid calories - no diet sodas or lite beverages.
  • Have a snack handy on the job and when you travel. Avoid skipping meals.
  • Whatever weight loss programs suggest, do the opposite.

Remember, weight gain is a process, not an event.
